World Cup-winning captain Hugo Lloris has admitted being more than twice the drink-drive limit when he was stopped by police in central London.

English soccer team Tottenham Hotspur's French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris arrives at Westminster magistrates court to answer a charge of a drinking and driving offense, in London, Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018.

Outlining the case, prosecutor Henry Fitch said: "Shortly before 2.20am, officers were on patrol in an unmarked vehicle when their attention was drawn to a Porsche - it was moving strangely and doing 15mph in a 30mph zone".

Lloris, who had been at a restaurant that night, was swerving towards parked cars and had to be helped out of his vehicle.

David Sonn, defending, said Lloris' "spectacular fall from grace was not lost" on the goalkeeper.

Lloris had previously said in a statement: "I wish to apologise wholeheartedly to my family, the club, my team-mates, the manager and all of the supporters".

The officers who spotted Lloris were in an unmarked auto and pulled him over as part of a routine stop.

Trump to fault supporters if impeached as US President
Trump's campaign rallies are often characterised by raucous interactions among supporters, Trump, and, sometimes, protesters. President Trump then proceeded to urge his supporters to vote in this fall's midterms.

"Drink-driving is completely unacceptable".

Sentencing Lloris, magistrate Amanda Barron said the fine represented the seriousness of the offence as well as the goalkeeper's financial means, although details of his salary were not disclosed in court.

He has also won more than 100 worldwide caps and lifted the World Cup during the summer, after France beat Croatia 4-2 in the final.

Mr Sonn also acknowledged his client's fall from grace after being arrested. "I made a mistake, I have to accept it".

Lloris, of East Finchley, spent a night in a cell at Charing Cross police station after failing a breath test in Marylebone.

Lloris has made 207 appearances in the Premier League since joining Spurs from Lyon in 2012.
