Ivanka Trump says news media are not ‘enemy of the people’

Donald Trump's daughter has said that she regards the separation of families at the United States border as a "low point" in her time at the White House. But she is very, very opposed to it, yet not opposed enough to leave the administration, even as hundreds of children remain separated, and not opposed enough to depart from an administration in which officials were directly warned of the potential for significant, lasting psychological harm to the children - and those same officials remain in their jobs.

She went on to say that immigration is an "incredibly complex topic", using her mother as an example. She added that "we have to be careful about incentivizing behavior that puts children at risk", by encouraging unsafe journeys across the border.

The daughter may diverge from her father on their media stance, but the White House hewed to the billionaire Republican, saying the press "continues to ratchet up the verbal assault" against Trump and his administration.

Ms Trump had kept largely silent as children were separated from their families and detained in border camps as a hardline policy that prosecuted people entering the USA without papers was implemented. "But no, I do not consider the media the enemy of the people".

She said she's been the subject of inaccurate reporting in the past so she understands why some people feel sensitive or targeted by the media. "It is the FAKE NEWS, which is a large percentage of the media, that is the enemy of the people!"

Speaking publicly for the first time since she shuttered her eponymous fashion brand last week, the first daughter and senior advisor to President Donald Trump took a decidedly different approach than her combative father to stress that the immigration crisis has caused her anxiety.

Ms Trump and her husband Mr Kushner, aged 36 and 37, are two of the most influential advisers in the White House, having played central roles in Mr Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.

Malaysia Airlines MH370 Report: 'Unlawful Interference by Third Party' Not Ruled Out
This report has done little to give closure to families who lost loved ones in the disaster. "The black box has not been found". He said he had spoken to each of the Australian families and acknowledged the "sense of loss" they lived with every day.

Sanders added: "We also don't like the idea of open borders".

When the moderator asked if the separation of migrant children from detained families was a low, she agreed.

"We haven´t been unclear what our position is here", she said.

"These are not easy issues".

As a high point, Trump cited the president's commutation of the sentence of Alice Marie Johnson, a 63-year-old woman serving life in prison for a nonviolent drug conviction after her case was brought to his attention by the reality television star Kim Kardashian.

Melania visited a border patrol centre in Arizona and said she aimed to "educate" herself about current immigration issues.
