Industry "mixed" on Origin Access Premier, EA says

Electronic Arts Announces Origin Access Premier Service Will Roll Out Next Week

It's fairly realistic to imagine other big publishers and platform holders to soon offer their own subscription services.

EA has announced its Origin Access Premier service will launch next week. While EA already has a subscription service, the Premier version will give players access to all of the company's new triple-A titles, including a range of sports titles, as well as "Battlefield V" and "Anthem". With Premier, subscribers will pay a bit more, but will get day-one or early access to new games on PC- just as Xbox Game Pass subscribers get access to exclusive games on day-one.

EA revealed more about its Origin Access Premier plans at the recent post earnings conference call.

Now is probably the best time EA will find to launch Origin Access Premier. The service will allow you to play an unlimited number of games for a monthly or annual fee. No more limited-time trials and no purchasing the game separately; you get unlimited access as long as you're a subscriber. This full access, plus the rest of the "Basic" benefits, will be active for as long as the subscription is active.

Thanks to Origin Access Premiere, EA's current fiscal year could end up planting the seeds for stronger long-term growth.

The most premium part of the new offering is that Origin Access Premier subscribers will get early access to every new EA title. The games generally weren't EA's latest and greatest but free is free, and dated or not a lot of the games it offered were really quite good.

The service is launching on July 30 and is going to cost $14,99/€14,99/£14,99 per month. That probably isn't an issue if you only play through a game once-or don't plan to cancel-but it's worth noting.
