Now, it looks like, those issues have been resolved, with the show's many stars set to return for the film.

HBO president Casey Bloys confirmed the airdate to U.S. media at a television press event in Los Angeles today but declined to elaborate on the show's final season.

Cable giant HBO has revealed it will premiere the final season of Game of Thrones in the "first half" of 2019 and also plans to begin work on the prequel series next year. The sooner the show's eighth season begins, the sooner the show ends forever. In June, HBO announced that they'd given a green light to a spin-off from Kick-Ass and Kingsman co-writer Jane Goldman and author George R.R. Martin, whose series of A Song of Ice and Fire novels provided the basis for HBO's smash hit fantasy series Game of Thrones. "It will feel very different because it's 8,000 years before, it's a very different setting, a very different time in Westeros, It will feel different but still Game of Thrones".

The final three mix original material with material expected in the as-yet-unpublished final novels in the cycle, The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring. The untitled pilot takes the prequel concept to a new level as it is set thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones.
