United States unveils $200 billion list of China imports for tariffs

‘Totally unacceptable’: Beijing vows retaliation if US taxes $200bn of Chinese goods

‘Totally unacceptable’: Beijing vows retaliation if US taxes $200bn of Chinese goods

Over 100 types of plastic products, materials and equipment from China are included in a massive new round of US tariffs released late July 10 and covering $200 billion worth of Chinese imports.

The USTR said the latest action was in response to Beijing's failure to change its policies and its retaliatory duties. "And I don't think any of us know that exactly".

"The trade dispute between China and the U.S.is a big deal, and to the extent that it goes to a full scale war that potentially is recessionary basically for the global economy so we have to be careful here", Tal said. "If the USA goes ahead with more, China needs a combination of tools and it is prudent to guard against downside risk to growth too".

"Rather than address our legitimate concerns, China has begun to retaliate against United States products". When Trump first threatened last month to target another $200 billion of Chinese products, Beijing said it would be "forced to strike back hard, and launch comprehensive measures that match the U.S. move in quantity and quality". China had "no choice but to take necessary countermeasures" without specifying what they might be.

Mr Trump has threatened to tax $550bn (£415bn) in Chinese products - exceeding America's total imports from China previous year.

The USTR, the federal agency that oversees global trade policy and negotiations, said it was responding to Beijing's decision to retaliate instead of changing its policies. "But China's reaction to the U.S. tariffs could pose a far greater threat to the index in time".

Louis Kuijs, Hong Kong-based Head of Asia Economics at Oxford Economics, said while he expects China to strongly condemn the United States moves, its policy response is likely to be limited for now.

Some lawmakers, frustrated by having to stand by as Trump imposes measures they see as harmful and protectionist, have begun to explore ways to rein in the president's authority to unilaterally impose tariffs.

Farmer Terry Davidson walks through his soy fields July 6, 2018, in Harvard, Illinois, the same day China imposed retaliatory tariffs aimed at the United States soybean market. Especially the issue of technology development is regarded as a threat both to the economic and ultimately military dominance of the US.

Members of Congress are increasingly questioning Trump's tactics. "Regardless, the $200 billion in potential additional tariffs is not a surprise".

Trump nominates conservative Brett Kavanaugh to Supreme Court
Kavanaugh later contributed to prosecutor Kenneth Starr's report into Clinton's affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky. Kavanaugh became Trump's second lifetime appointment to the nation's highest judicial body in his 18 months in office.

In fact, Hatch indicated that he wants more severe measures.

Investors had been taking the trade war in stride but Tuesday's announcement appeared to dent that optimism.

The officials said they tried to target goods that would reduce the harm to USA consumers. It followed a 10.1% rise in April.

Although it was not a direct reaction to the new move from Trump's administration, the official English-language newspaper China Daily said in an editorial that Beijing had to stand up to Washington. The US had said it would consider requests from some countries to be exempted from other sanctions that it plans put into effect in November that prevent Iran from exporting oil.

China hasn't yet clarified how it will respond to the latest salvo.

"China seems to have no interest in bending and they will retaliate". The meeting ended in an event, hosted by Merkel, at which the German chemical company BASF signed a preliminary accord to spend up to $10 billion on a second complex in China.

"We are stronger together than apart", North Atlantic Treaty Organisation secretary general Jens Stoltenberg claimed in a retort to Mr Trump's comments but the USA leader countered by asking how the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation alliance could be stronger when Germany is "making Russian Federation richer", referring to energy pipeline deals Berlin recently has signed with Moscow.

She said the downside risk to growth mainly stemmed from trade tensions.

Video " Appreciate your allies. you don't have that many", Trump is warned as he arrives in Europe.
