On Friday, WKYC Channel 3 Sports confirmed that LeBron James will not pick up the one-year player option remaining on his Cleveland Cavaliers contract.

Houston does not have cap space, so the best way for it to acquire James would be through a trade after he picked up his player option.

What James will do remains to be seen, but a number of reports have LeBron eyeing a possible move to the Los Angeles Lakers, on the contingency that he could entice another superstar to join him. Even that was a remote possibility.

Two people familiar with the decision say LeBron James has told the Cleveland Cavaliers he is declining his $35.6 million contract option for next season and is a free agent.

James is widely expected to choose between the Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Lakers.

The four-time MVP is set to become the biggest name available once free agency officially begins at 11:01 p.m. Saturday.

Turning down an option to stay with a team doesn't sound like positive news, but this hardly means the Cavs have been crossed off James' list.

The most another team could offer James is four years and $152.3 million. The Rockets pushed the two-time defending champion Golden State Warriors to seven games in the Western Conference finals last month. The Rams' decision to give their input on the situation on further exemplifies that buzz that has been brewing, especially after the least development with the 33-year-old electing to becoming an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

There is a healthy amount of skepticism around the National Basketball Association that the Spurs will be willing to trade Leonard to Los Angeles, though. "Why would I think about doing something like that?" No team can offer James as much money or as many years as the Cavs. It will likely continue up until the time that James makes his decision.
