UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker says he is in best shape ever before his UFC return bout with Yoel Romero

Because of failing to make weight, Romero will not be eligible to win the title.

Yoel Romero failed to make weight Friday for his middleweight title fight against Robert Whittaker at UFC 225.

UFC officials had told Sporting News that it is unknown whether the bout will still happen.

The UFC 225 headliner is one of a record three bouts featuring Australians on the pay-per-view main card.

At the time of writing, the terms of the contest are not clear but UFC President Dana White confirmed that the fight will take place while it remains to be seen whether a title will be on the line, whether it will be the main event or how many rounds it will be.

Supreme Court rules for Colorado baker in gay wedding cake case
Legal action followed after a baker refused to make Charlie Craig , left, and David Mullins a cake for their wedding. The decision doesn't say that any store owner can refuse to sell things to people on religious grounds.

"I think suspensions are in order, I really do", Whittaker said, per Yahoo Sports' Kevin Iole.

"I don't think he can change that drastically at his age and in this little amount of time before the fight", he said. "Look, if you don't make weight, you're breaching a contract straight up". Romero was the last fighter to weigh-in Friday, and originally came in one pound over the championship fight limit of 185 pounds.

"This fight, as far as I'm concerned, I have 25 minutes to try to finish him - and I'm going to use every single second of those minutes to try to achieve that".

However, Whittaker posted to Twitter following the weigh-in, with his message all but confirming his intention to fight Romero. On his second attempt almost two hours later, he hit 185.2. The former Olympic silver medalist missed weight by over two pounds earlier this year ahead of a planned encounter with Luke Rockhold for the interim belt.
