"We've never been in the data business", Apple CEO Tim Cook told NPR on Monday.

Apple also said it would start to restrict the data shared online from a device to make it harder for individual devices to be identified. "Well, it turns out these can be used to track you, whether you click on them or not", he said.

Craig Federighi, Apple's senior vice president of software engineering, speaks about the company's "Screen Time" feature during an announcement of new products at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference, June 4, 2018, in San Jose, Calif. So for example, if you are browsing the website of your favourite Pizza chain which has Like and Share buttons embedded on the page, Safari in macOS Mojave will show you a prompt asking you whether you want Facebook.com to track you or not, and if you say no the Facebook related plugins will not be loaded on the page.

According to the Times, Facebook formed data-sharing partnerships with tech giants including Apple and Samsung in deals that gave device makers access to users' information, such as relationship status and political affiliation.

Apple faced a backlash late previous year when it emerged that the company slowed down some older iPhones with flagging batteries. On March, the company grappled with the privacy scandal that was the Cambridge Analytica story which led to an "inappropriate" collection of data of upto 87 million people. A feature called Screen Time will track how much time users are spending with particular apps.

Regarding fingerprinting, Apple claims that it will drastically reduce the amount of information that it allows to be tracked, effectively scrambling a data company's ability to track you.

Hugh Dane, The Office's Hank The Security Guard, Has Died

In iOS 12, the Photos app will now display search suggestions when a user is looking for a specific picture, based on things that appear in the photo, including cars, dogs and flowers.

While introducing this feature to the world, Apple made a decision to show Facebook apps as an example, which is amusing because they could have chosen any other app.

For Apple users anxious about how much time they and their children spend posting photos and videos to their devices, help is on the way.

Apple also intends another major addition for iOS 12, called "Time Limit".

"We're empowering people with the facts that will allow them to decide for themselves how they want to cut back", said Cook.
