England's all-time leading scorer only re-joined the Toffees last summer after spending 13 seasons with Manchester United, and now has one year left on his Goodison Park contract.

Now with the Everton Football Club, Rooney's deal is reportedly worth approximately $17 million and his contract would be offered until the end of 2020.

That has left Rooney - along with other members of the Everton squad - in limbo as they can not get assurances from Allardyce about their future.

The Dutch boss was sacked by October, however, and eventually replaced by Allardyce who was brought in to steady the ship and ensure that the Toffees stayed clear of relegation.

Much also depends on Moshiri's decision about whether Sam Allardyce remains in place next season or is jettisoned in the summer with a pay-off on the remaining year of his contract.

In the quest to find out, Rooney was shuffled round the team, playing striker, support, attacking and deep-lying midfielder or coming in off the left and right.

Martial, a France worldwide , started against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on Friday night, but once again failed to impress.

With Manchester United, Rooney was 2010 Footballer of the Year and won five Premier League titles.

Wayne would follow in the footsteps of younger brother John who played in America for New York Red Bulls. He has played 31 times in the league this season.

As was the case a year ago, Rooney has no shortage of offers to move overseas, lucrative deals possible in the United States or elsewhere. "But at the moment he's an Everton player and Everton fan".

Earlier in the week, Allardyce insisted that the player was not looking to move on: "It would have to be massive for him to want leave Everton", he told Talksport.

The report suggests that the deal will be officially confirmed when the MLS mid-season transfer window opens on July 10. If he chooses to go then DC will be getting a good player.
