AMU protest

As reported by Hindustan Times, the comment by the newly elected NISHAD Party parliamentarian comes in the midst of violent protests over a portrait of the Pakistan founder on the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) campus.

Interestingly it is not just the much-derided "Left-Liberal" intellectuals who consider Jinnah a tall leader in India's independence movement before he espoused the cause of Pakistan. Lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar, too, waded into the controversy by saying that not only Jinnah but also the temples built for Godse must be condemned.

I appeal everyone to tear and burn down posters of Jinnah and people like him.

The Muslim Mahasangh in Rampur also later announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for burning the photo of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, which triggered a massive uproar at the AMU. During his Karnataka election tour, Mr Adityanath said he was against honouring Pakistan's founder. Gautam then wrote to the varsity and demanded its removal.

Jinnah's picture was in the campus since 1938.

"No one has a place in their heart for nation's enemy, never had, and never will have", Maurya told ANI.

Local elections: No clear victor , Labour and Tories neck and neck
There was success too for the Conservatives outside the capital, where the anti-EU UKIP Party's vote collapsed. A Survation poll on Wednesday in London showed Labour 20 percentage points ahead of the Conservatives .

The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) erupted in protest after armed extremists, reportedly associated with Hindu Yuva Vahini, barged in the campus and tried to disrupt an event organized in the honor of former President of India and also ex-Vice Chancellor of AMU, Hamid Ansari on Wednesday. We can't wait for them to act on this issue. We have assembled here to expose this politics and how right-wing people entered the campus with an intention to disturb the peaceful environment. The inquiry will also ascertain as to why no FIR was registered against them.

On Thursday, 28 students and 13 cops were injured in a clash which broke out between AMU students and the police.

"There will be no internet services from 2 pm today to 12 midnight tomorrow", district magistrate Chandra Bhushan Singh said.

Meanwhile, the president of Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union, Geeta Kumari, today asked the RSS and different saffron groups to "stop interfering in the internal affairs" of different educational institutions in the country.

Kidwai said the students were holding protests in a democratic manner and had three demands.
