Nigeria has been facing an insurgency of the Boko Haram jihadists, who have aligned themselves with the Daesh* terror group, outlawed in Russian Federation since 2009.

Boko Haram fighters are also said to be hiding in the Mandara mountains in the east of Adamawa State and on the border with Cameroon.

More recently on Thursday, the jihadist group carried out an attack in Maiduguri, capital of neighboring Borno state, that killed four people.

This comes a day after President Muhammadu Buhari met with President Donald Trump at the White House in Washington DC, USA.

The statement said that the 56 injured persons were on admission in hospital.

"How they think in terms of combat, in my opinion, is still thinking of things as conventional warfare", Lieutenant-Colonel Sean McClure, the United States defense attaché in Abuja, told AFP last month.

In Mubi, local volunteer Habu Saleh, who was involved in the rescue effort, described the situation as "chaos all over the place".

Health workers from the hospital mobilised to attend to the victims, despite being on strike over pay and conditions.

The explosion occurred today's afternoon at a mosque in Wuro-Burode were worshippers are holding Zuhr (Afternoon ) prayer, Naija News understands.

He detonated his explosives "five minutes before the prayer started", he added.

Boko Haram held territory in Adamawa state in 2014 but troops pushed the insurgents out in early 2015 and Mubi was relatively peaceful until a suicide bomb attack in November 2017 that killed 50 people.

It was the second time in six months that dozens have been killed in an attack on a Mubi mosque.
