Adityanath who rushed to the accident site for an on-the-spot assessment, was greeted with slogans like "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" and "Vande Mataram".

Officials said the accident occurred early Thursday as the van was transporting 22 students, all between the ages of five and 14, to a local school in Uttar Pradesh state. The train was travelling from Siwan in Bihar to Gorakhpur. The children, students of Divine Public School, were killed on the spot when the Thawe-Kapatanganj passenger train crashed into the van at the unmanned crossing gate at Behpurva, said Railways spokesman Ved Prakash.

On being informed about the tragedy, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath flew off to Kushinagar and visited the site.

Considering this as a major and a serious issue about this, unfortunately, incident, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Adityanath ordered instantaneous assistance to the victims and to their families.

Reportedly, this is the second school vehicle accident in this month.
