Google to roll out new security protections for Gmail accounts

Gmail's'confidential mode lets you set expiration dates on emails

On the security front, the new Gmail features a Confidential Mode that lets you set expiration dates on your e-mails so they're no longer accessible.

All of these new features will be coming out to regular Gmail users.

A cleaner, more streamlined interface will be the first change you notice, with a collapsible sidebar on the right where you can display information from Google Calendar, Google Keep, or Google Tasks (now being launched as a standalone app).

The new design doubles down on an idea that Google helped invent 14 years ago when Gmail debuted: We get such an avalanche of emails, it's not worth trying to delete - or even look at - all of them. Go to Settings (the cog wheel in the top right corner of your inbox) and select "Try the new Gmail".

If you're ready to get started with the new Gmail, you can start today on Gmail Business accounts if you're part of the G Suite Early Adopter Program.

Gmail now has received "Outlook" like the look, the new Gmail with a lot of major changes has been released for the users.

Another major new addition is "confidential mode". As the leaks suggested, it revamps all the core Gmail elements with a new, sleek look.

20 killed, 40 wounded in air raid on Yemen wedding: medics
Saudi coalition air raids have repeatedly struck civilian targets while trying to target Houthi forces during the three-year war. In late 2015, coalition air strikes on two wedding parties in northern Yemen killed at least 159 civilians.

Anything that's unread but not been responded to, Gmail will "nudge" users about, highlighting the age of the message next to it in yellow text and asking whether users would like to reply.

Last year, Google brought smart replies to Gmail's mobile apps, and it's now available on the web as well. You can even add two-factor authentication, meaning it will require a code sent via SMS before the message can be accessed. New offline capabilities on the web app will let you work without interruption if Wi-Fi is scarce.

For instance, the icons have been tweaked, you can now check the attachments without opening the mail, and the left pane which accommodates folders now has circular backgrounds. In addition to that, the tabs are compatible with drag and down so that you can simply move emails over to, for instance, Google Tasks and create a new task. Finally, Google is expanding Smart Reply, which had previously only been available in mobile apps, to the Gmail web interface.

There's also more granular control in confidential mode over what the recepient can do you with that email, including the ability for senders to enable or revoke privileges like forwarding or downloading attachments.

Starting this week, Google is rolling out a redesign to the Gmail web experience, its biggest change since 2011.

Google makes sure you are aware when a message in your Gmail inbox is risky. You can also switch back to classic Gmail down the road. If this option is not appearing in your user setting then wait for some time. Most crucially, emails set as "confidential" cannot be forwarded or replied to directly, which could reduce the risk of accidental leakage. The panel allows you to copy or paste content from Gmail into other apps, or just quickly jot down a note or add a task.
