President Donald Trump announced on Twitter that he is thinking about giving a full posthumous pardon to boxing champion Jack Johnson.

After being prompted by actor Sylvester Stallone, President Donald Trump on Saturday tweeted he is considering granting the late champion boxer Jack Johnson a full pardon. He won the Texas State Middleweight title as a professional athlete, and later he became the World Colored Heavyweight Championship between 1903-1908.

The Texas brawler, who typically picked off opponents as they exhausted, claimed a resounding victory in the "Fight of the Century", a bout against former champion James Jeffries, amid huge racial tensions. Johnson was heavyweight champion from 1908 to 1915, a reign that included his knockout in 1910 of the so-called Great White Hope, former champion James J. Jeffries, which prompted race riots in dozens of USA cities. Johnson was black, his girlfriend was white.

In 2010, the British world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis told the Guardian that though Muhammad Ali's "contribution was profound, Jack Johnson's was the first".

Discussion of a presidential pardon has come up in the past - but nothing ever materialized.

Bryant, 26, was hitting.319 with a.461 on-base percentage before getting hit on the 1-2 pitch, a 96 miles per hour fastball. On the other hand, the Rockies have lost 1.9 units and are 5-4 ATS when facing a left-handed starting pitcher.

"Despite this resolution passing both chambers of Congress several times in recent years, no pardon has been issued to date", McCain said in a statement at the time.

Johnson was convicted by an all-white jury in less than two hours and was imprisoned for a year.

Advocates, including Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), have petitioned the Justice Department to move forward with a pardon for Johnson for years. However, he skipped bail with one of the women involved, Lucie Cameron, and traveled to Montreal, Mexico, Europe and South America for years, the Post added.

Haywood said she was optimistic that Trump would follow through, but she was trying to keep her excitement at bay until she knew for a fact that he would give Johnson the pardon.

"We urge you to grant this posthumous pardon". In 1999, President Bill Clinton pardoned Henry O. Flipper, the first African-American officer to graduate from West Point in 1877, after being unjustly accused of embezzlement.
