Winter Storm Saturday into Saturday Night.A large storm system will impact the state Friday into Sunday, with rain expected to transition to snow across northern into northwestern Iowa Saturday morning and persist through the day into Saturday night.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for central, north central, east central, and southeast South Dakota through Saturday.

Mixed precipitation expected Friday night, changing to mainly snow overnight into Saturday morning. Sunday, a mix of freezing rain and sleet but - and this is good news - the ice won't accumulate. As the low approaches, brisk northeasterly winds will pump in cold Arctic air, forcing temperatures below freezing early this morning.

Saturday's high will be just 0 C, with an overnight low of -4 C. Sunday's high will be -3 C, with the temperature dropping to a low of -5 C overnight. Little or no ice accumulation expected.

Blizzard warnings are now up for western Minnesota.

Adding to further misery, the precipitation is expected to change to several hours of freezing rain at some point on Sunday. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.

The National Weather Service in Green Bay has also issued a WINTER STORM WATCH, which will be in effect from 4PM Saturday until 12AM Monday, for the counties of Kewaunee, Manitowoc, and Brown.

Between 8 to 15 inches are likely, with totals possibly reaching 18 inches in some areas, the weather service said.

Sunday morning another round of ice pellets will move into the region quickly changing over to freezing rain later in the morning. At the most, five inches.

By Sunday, snow, at times heavy, will fall in portions of the upper Midwest, especially the northern Great Lakes. Winds may gust over 40 miles per hour at times through into Sunday morning, especially across northeast Wisconsin.
