Masazo Nonaka, a 112-year-old Japanese man residing in the country's northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido, was recognized as the world's oldest living male, Guinness World Records said on Tuesday.

Born on July 25, 1905, Nonaka grew up in a large family and succeeded his parents running the inn. The first radio broadcast happened in 1906.

The world's oldest man has been named as 112-year-old Masazo Nonaka, whose secret to longevity is said to be eating candies and taking hot baths.

Yuko Nonaka, his granddaughter, said he put much of his longevity down to a soft spot for Japanese and Western candies. "He loves eating any kinds of candies ― Japanese or Western style", she said, according to The Telegraph.

"He reads newspapers everyday and often soaks in the hot springs", she added.

What Trump Is Missing By Canceling His South America Trip
When speaking on Monday, Trump stated that "nothing is off the table", in dealing with Syria following the chemical attack . In that time, however, he has undertaken more distant trips to Europe, Asia and the Middle East on several occassions.

Even though Nonaka's longevity is an unbelievable feat, there are several people alive today who are even older - but all of them are women.

The oldest person ever to have lived is Jeanne Calment, a French woman, who died in 1997 at age 122 years and 164 days, according to Guinness. He was also presented with an award and a cake from the Mayor of the Ashoro town where he was born and lives now with his family. He married his wife Hatsuno in 1931 and the pair had five children, according to Guinness World Records.

Nonaka replaces Francisco Nuñez Olivera of Spain, who was 113 when he died in January.

Although he believes his longevity is because of soaking in hot springs and eating candies, his daughter does not think so.

Local officials said the body had not yet been identified, but Japan's NHK television said the man was among six people who had been reported missing by a local resident.
