Fire marshals sift through charred Trump Tower apartment for clues after blaze killed tenant

The apartment in New York's Trump Tower that was destroyed in a raging fire that killed a resident and injured six firefighters had no sprinkler system, authorities said. "Members pushed in heroically, they were knocking down the fire and found one occupant of the apartment who is in critical condition", the official account for the Fire Department of NY tweeted at the time.

"There are four Firefighters with non-life-threatening injuries".

U.S. President Donald Trump used to live in the tower building with his family before assuming the presidency in January past year.

Fire sprinklers were not required in New York City highrises when Trump Tower was completed in 1983. It was ruled under control around 9 p.m., two hours after it was originally reported, the FDNY tweeted. "The apartment was quite large and 50 stories up".

Trump's son Eric Trump hailed the first responders as "truly some of the most incredible people anywhere" for extinguishing a fire "in a residential apartment". No concern about firefighter injuries in battling the blaze or two civilians injured by falling debris. Firemen (and women) did a great job. "Members pushed in heroically, they were knocking down the fire and found one occupant of the apartment who is in critical condition", the fire service quoted him as saying.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Gold medalists Shayna Jack, Bronte Campbell, Emma McKeon and Cate Campbell of Australia celebrate on the podium. Horton tracked the leading duo in the first half of the race before making his charge in the final 150m.

President Trump keeps a sprawling, penthouse residence in the building, and his business has offices there.

Officals confirmed that no members of the Trump family were in the building at the time of the disaster.

Asked if that assessment was accurate, Nigro said, "It's a well-built building".

"This was a very hard fire". While there was a "considerable amount of smoke", they have not yet determined whether or not the smoke reached President Trump's unit.

Trump's then-under construction Trump World Tower near the United Nations was also grandfathered in because he had submitted building permits before the local law was signed.
