According to witnesses, the female gunman shot her boyfriend and then herself.

Witnesses reported "rapid gunfire" and staff running for cover.

The San Bruno Police Department told people on Facebook to stay away from the area Tuesday.

"Police cruisers pull up, hopped out with rifles ready and I told them where the situation was as I headed down the street to meet up with a couple team members".

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Officials confirm an active police investigation is underway at YouTube's headquarters on Cherry Avenue in San Bruno.

There are dozens of police officers at the scene.

Video posted on Twitter showed people leaving the campus with their hands up.

A YouTube product manager, Todd Sherman, described on Twitter hearing people running, first thinking it was an quake before he was told that a person had a gun.

The company that owns the world's biggest online video website said Tuesday on Twitter that it's advising employees and others to stay away from the area and that it's set up a help line for workers.

He tweeted about 15 minutes later saying he was "safe" and that he had been evacuated.

YouTube product manager Todd Sherman said they were sitting in a meeting when they heard people running and felt the floor rumbling. He said the victim was an Asian woman, aged in her 20s. Authorities say the women believed to be the shooter has died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Michael used a bungee cord as a tourniquet around the woman's leg.

One victim has been shot in the chest although no fatalities have been confirmed, reports ABC7News.

She said three YouTube employees came in and were visibly shaken.

A neighbor tells KTVU she heard multiple gunshots, one after another before the gunshots started to get quieter. YouTube employs 1,100 people at the campus.

In a statement, Google said: "We are coordinating with authorities and will provide official information here from Google and YouTube as it becomes available".
