The Noor Salman trial wraps up this week

Noor Salman, the wife of Omar Mateen shooter at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, FL, has been acquitted of charges related to the massacre on June 12, 2016.

The FBI arrested Salman in January of previous year on a charge of obstruction of justice and "aiding and abetting by providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization", according to Orlando Police Chief John Mina.

But the defense said Salman, who was born in California to Palestinian parents, was abused by her husband, who cheated on her with other women and concealed much of his life from her.

Federal prosecutors said Salman, 31, had advance knowledge of the crime, and then aided and abetted her husband in providing material support and resources to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS).

Jurors at the court in Orlando on Friday found Noor Salman not guilty of obstruction of justice, and for providing material support to Mateen before the mass shooting, one of the deadliest in modern USA history.

Leal says she remembers her son as a happy, always on the go, loving person.

"The family really wants to first say that we're very sorry for the family members and friends of the 49 victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting and also the survivors of that awful attack".

The verdict took three days of deliberation by the jury before they declared her not guilty of both counts.

During the trial, which began March 3, the defense argued that Salman had a low IQ, a childish nature and was dominated by her abusive husband. "It is only logical the world would look next to Noor Salman".

"She doesn't go to the mosque, she searches for Hello Kitty on her website", Swift said in closing arguments. However, her attorneys contended that her statements were coerced and were false.

Central to the case were statements Salman made to Special Agent Ricardo Enriquez at an Federal Bureau of Investigation office in the hours after the attack. The charges against Salman could have led to a life sentence for a guilty verdict. They also heard his conversations with an Orlando police negotiator, in which he declared his support for the Islamic State, blaming USA military strikes in the Middle East for the attack.

Prosecutors sought to prove Salman helped Mateen prepare for the attack, joining him as he scouted possible targets and bought guns and ammunition.

"I knew when he left the house he was going to Orlando to attack the Pulse nightclub", the statement said.

Salman also advised Mateen to lie to his mother when she inquired about his whereabouts on the night of the shooting, prosecutors said.

GREEN: Well, this trial comes almost two years after this attack that just devastated the community here in Orlando. She stood implicated helpful Mateen get ready for as well as intend the 2016 carnage at the club as well as of blocking private investigators' initiatives after the murder.

Salman's attorneys argued that their client was not an accomplice but a simple-minded victim of her husband's infidelity and lies. His intended target was the Disney Springs complex, prosecutors said.
