North, South Korea agree to hold summit

But, South Korea's unification minister reaffirmed that denuclearization is a central topic that's been discussed since the January 9th high-level talks and during several trips back and forth between Seoul and Pyongyang.

President Donald Trump may "hold up" a new trade deal with South Korea until after his meeting with North Korea's leader, Kim Jong Un.

This driven rapprochement has been created after North Korea's persistent nuclear and missile programs had created tensions in the Korean Peninsula. The countries earlier this month agreed to hold a leaders' summit on the southern side of the border village. Few other details were released.

The Asahi said in an article from Seoul Kim's government had discussed the possibility of summits with South Korea, the United States, China, Japan and Russian Federation, in that order. In its coverage of the Kim-Xi meeting, the North's state media didn't mention Kim's reported comments about opening a dialogue with the United States that were carried in Chinese state media.

Since the Korean War left the Korean Peninsula divided, North and South Korea have held only three inter-Korean leadership summits.

"There have been many historical events, including the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, when our combined efforts, strengths and determination", stated Ri Son Gwon, Chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Country - North Korea "With this in mind, I would like you to convey the North Korean people's gratitude to South Korean government officials and their people".
