Cause Of Death Of Iowa Family Who Were Found Dead In Mexico Revealed

Quintana Roo State Prosecutor Miguel Angel Pech told a local radio station that investigators discovered that "gas was escaping" from the apartment's hot water boiler, which he said could have been due to poor maintenance.

Mexican authorities said Saturday (Mar. 24) the American family of four who were found dead in a tourist city died from inhalation of toxic gases. Mexican authorities are ruling out foul play.

Officials in Mexico say they expect to release a technical report with additional information.

Photos released by the office showed investigators in anti-contamination suits and firefighters with air tanks examining gas connections to a stove in the condo in Tulum.

"In fact, a high concentration of this toxic (gas) was found in the room", Pech said.

Despite the family's longer lapse in communication, authorities reportedly believe they died within 48 hours of being found.

"Any violent act or suicide has been discounted", the prosecutors' office in the Caribbean coast state of Quintana Roo said. Creston police worked with the U.S. State Department, which was able to quickly contact Mexican authorities to perform a welfare check at the condo the Sharps were renting.

Classrooms equipped with buckets of rocks to stone shooters
According to ABC, ALICE protocol involves evacuating students and barricading classroom doors for those who can't safely leave. Still, Blue Mountain has an employee on site who's trained and certified as school security and who also carries a weapon.

"Life is not going to be the same without her", Beth Fry, Amy Sharp's mother, said Friday, according to the Associated Press.

A prosecutor in Mexico said Monday a gas leak in a water heater is suspected in the death of an Iowa couple and their two children last week.

The Sharps' family members chose to wait for the last flight from Cancun to St. Louis to arrive on Thursday in case the Sharps had just planned to stay an extra day, Weland told ABC News.

The Creston News Advertiser newspaper in Iowa reported that the family flew to Cancun on March 14. "Here in Iowa racing is a big family; we try to promote it as a family sport and (the Sharps) lived it".

"Our most heartfelt condolences go out to the loved ones of the Sharp family for their tragic loss".

"Creston is close-knit like all small towns in Iowa", he added.

On Saturday, the community held a candlelight vigil at Adams County Speedway, where the Sharp family were regular spectators, local NBC affiliate World Health Organization reported.
