For now, Bird will see a foot specialist in NY to try and get a better idea of the injury and what steps should be taken to treat it and get him back on the field. The team expects him to miss six to eight weeks.

This news comes as a devastating blow to Bird and the Yankee lineup.

"It's upsetting", first-year manager Aaron Boone said Monday afternoon.

The Greg Bird-Nick Johnson comparisons certainly aren't going to stop, that's for sure.

Bird, 25, will have a small broken bone spur removed.

Perched near home plate, a fungo bat cradled within his grip, Aaron Boone has spent the past six weeks delighting in the thunder that the Yankees possess.

"Hopefully this is something he will now put behind him for good", Boone said. He hopes that could be the necessary ingredient to elevate his defense to the next level."I definitely feel better blocking, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to be flawless", Sanchez said.

Neil Walker is likely to start at first base in Thursday's Opening Day fixture against Toronto Blue Jays. He led the AL with 127 walks last season and his on-base percentage was.422, third in baseball behind Joey Votto of the Cincinnati Reds and Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels, who also mostly batted second in their lineups. The path forward without Bird looks clear.

The Jets are signing WR Terrelle Pryor
Per Rapoport, the two parties are now working out the details of the contract, which is expected to be finished tonight. Pryor would break out in a huge way for the Browns in 2016, racking up 1007 yards and 4 scores on 77 receptions.

Bird has played in just 94 regular-season games the last three seasons due to injury. "So I just want to at least get that part of it out of the way".

The 25-year-old Bird, who graduated from Grandview High School in Aurora, has been promising yet perplexing since his big league debut in 2015, when he came up from the minors and had 11 homers and 31 RBIs in 46 games.

Bird made his major-league debut August 13, 2015, and hit 11 homers in 46 games. Most notably, he homered off Andrew Miller to account for the lone run in a 1-0 victory over Cleveland in Game 3 of the AL Division Series. 3B Brandon Drury, hit on the left elbow by pitch Friday, is set to play in Monday night's spring training finale at Atlanta.

"X-rays were negative, but there is definitely some swelling in there", manager Aaron Boone said.

"I don't think it's a surprise, but any of those potential perceptions in my eyes have been shattered", Boone said.

"We're not talking about a 35-year-old at the end of his career", Teixeira said. "We feel like Tyler Austin is ready for this opportunity. He was just blocked by Greg Bird".

"We'll play the match-up game pretty much each and every day". So you'll see different combinations of Walker at first, Wade at second. We feel good about it.

"He did say he's had some discomfort a little bit off and on", Cashman said.
