Rajya Sabha polls Rajiv Shukla not Naranbhai Rathwa to file nomination from Gujarat

Keen on not letting the Congress in Karnataka nominate its third MP to the Rajya Sabha in the upcoming polls easily, the Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) has made a decision to crackdown on its rebel MLAs.

Banerjee had stated on March 9 that her party would support Singhvi in the Rajya Sabha elections from the state, even before the Congress' announcement of the candidature.

Union ministers Parshottam Rupala and Mansukh Mandaviya of the BJP and Naran Rathwa and Amee Yajnik of the Congress were elected unopposed after BJP's Kiritsinh Rana and Congress-backed independent P.K. Valera backed out. Rane formed Maharashtra Swabhiman Party (MSP) previous year after quitting the Congress, and declared support to the BJP-led NDA.

Congress had on Sunday announced names of 10 candidates for the biennial Rajya Sabha elections in seven states, including Abhishek Manu Singhvi from West Bengal and senior journalist Kumar Ketkar from Maharashtra.

On 13 March, the BJP took objection to Rathwa's candidature and alleged that he had filed a "fake" no-dues certificate with his nomination forms.

Trade Representative, is in charge of negotiating with countries appealing for exclusions; Ross is handling product exemptions. The Trump administration announced a 25 percent steel tariff and 10 pecent tariff on imported aluminium earlier this month.

Both the BJP and the Congress had the strength of MLAs to send two candidates each to the upper house.

The BJP will require six more votes to make its ninth candidate sail through.

In a dramatically pleasant twist to the high drama on nomination day, election for the four Rajya Sabha seats from Gujarat Assembly saw an amicable conclusion on Thursday. Elections to the Rajya Sabha nearly looked unopposed on March 12 but the BJP fielded more candidates to force elections.

Apprehending that nomination papers of its tribal candidate Naranbhai Rathwa may be declared invalid due to lack of proper documents, the Congress had asked retired bureaucrat and Dalit leader P K Valera to file his nomination as an independent nominee.

Elections to four Rajya Sabha seats from the State are scheduled on Mar.23.
