Akufo-Addo attends International Solar Alliance Summit In India

India has set an ambitious target of installing 175GW of renewable energy, including 100GW from solar by 2020 as announced by India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the joint launch of the ISA with then-French President Francois Hollande on 30 November 2015.

Macron applauded India's efforts in expanding renewable energy capacity within two years, from 39GW to 63GW, with solar energy growing up by 140%.

The founding conference of ISA is being co-chaired by Indian prime minister Narendra Modi and French president Emmanuel Macron in New Delhi, with delegates including heads of state and government, ministers, chief executives of worldwide organisations and other high-level officials.

The Prime Minister said of the 121 countries associated with ISA, 61 have joined the alliance and 32 have ratified the Framework Agreement.

The ISA member states also agreed "to increase their efforts to pursue an increased share of solar energy in the final energy consumption in our respective national energy mix, as a means of tackling global challenges of climate change and as a cost effective solution by supporting and implementing policy initiatives and participation of all relevant stakeholders, as applicable, in our respective states".

The organisation is also working on other projects, such as the one to promote the use of solar pumps in farms, replacing diesel ones, or the one to procure financing for member countries, or those to promote the use of mini-grids.

The conference is being attended by over 20 heads and deputy heads of government.

Trump Backtracks Again, Doesn't Set Age for Guns, Defers on Arming Teachers
Trump's administration will step up aid to states that want to arm school employees under a plan to increase campus safety. States are making this decision. "Things are moving rapidly on this, but not much political support (to put it mildly)".

India and France called for affordable solar technology and concessional finance for promoting solar energy. He said better and cheaper solar technology should be easily available to all nations.

ISA is an inter-governmental organization that aims to mobilize $1 trillion in funds for future solar generation, storage and technology across the world. Solar energy policy has to be to looked at in totality for development so that it can contribute to achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs), he said.

Macron took a jibe at US President Donald Trump at the summit for his decision to withdraw from the Paris climate change agreement. Regulatory aspects as well as standards have to be framed which will expedite adoption of solar solutions, Modi said, adding that consultancy support has to be development for putting up bankable solar projects in developing countries.

Of these, 100 GW is to come from solar and 60 GW from wind. "This is what the alliance of 121 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Oceania shall be doing", Macron said Sunday.

For his part, Modi pointed out that India has started the world's largest renewable energy expansion program.

China is targeting over 360 GW of renewable capacity generation during the period.
