One person dead one hurt after reported explosion in Austin Texas

Read on for more details about the explosions and where they happened.

My heart goes out to the family of the individual who died & was injured from the explosion on Old Fort Hill Dr. The woman had non-life-threatening injuries, police said. That explosion left one teenager dead and one woman wounded. "It seemed to be a non-festival related incident so I instantly relaxed", she said.

The packages that exploded on Monday were not delivered by any mainstream commercial shipping services, such as Federal Express or United Parcel Service, Manley said.

Manley says since the first bomb was before SXSW, he does not believe festival-goers are a target or the cause.

Police in Austin, Texas say they are treating a series of bomb explosions over the past week as a potential hate crime.

The first blast was first thought to have been a suspicious death but is now being treated as murder.

During a press conference today, police emphasized that the motive for the attacks is still unknown.

Then, shortly before noon, local time, police responded to a third explosion, this time on the southeast side of the city. A second package was discovered near the site of the initial Monday explosion and that some residents and media members were evacuated or pushed farther from the blast site as authorities determined whether it was a bomb, Manley said.

"There was a package that exploded inside of the home".

The third explosion took place about five hours later, where a 75-year-old Hispanic woman walked outside her home and picked up a package she saw.

The bomber moved as close to the gathering as he could and detonated his explosives at the checkpoint outside, the spokesman said. The death toll has risen to nine, Waheed Majroh, spokesman for the Health Ministry said.

"We have no specific ideology or victimology behind this, and it will remain an ongoing investigation while we pursue any and every lead", Manley said.

Manley noted the first package bomb incident occurred in Austin on March 2 and two other on Monday morning.

Although investigators have not determined a motive for the attacks, they believe the victims may have been specifically targeted due to their race.

The US Postal Service told investigators that the packages did not come through their facilities, so the packages were likely left by someone at the doorstep, Manley said.

However, a motive in the three incidents remains unclear at this time. "He says there's now no other evidence indicating a hate crime beyond the victims' race", the AP reports.

The three explosions occurred in different parts of Austin.

Chief Manley tweeted that if you receive a package that you are not expecting, "DO NOT open it", and instead call 911 immediately. "We're not saying that's the cause, we're just looking at any possible motivations that would link these two cases together". "It is important that people be vigilant", Manley added.

The package was brought inside the house, and it detonated as it was being opened, police said.

Gov. Greg Abbott is offering a reward of $15,000 to anyone who provides information leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect or suspects involved in the package blasts.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
