West Ham are facing the prospect of severe sanctions after the most serious outbreak of trouble yet inside the London stadium as David Moyes's side crashed to a 3-0 defeat against Burnley.

In a statement, the club said it had launched a "full and thorough investigation" and is "committed to taking decisive and appropriate action".

"It is essential that everybody who plays or attends a Premier League football match can do so safely", it said.

West Ham face an obdurate Burnley side who visit the London Stadium with one of the best away records in the country.

A group of fans began to taunt West Ham's owners David Gold and David Sullivan in the directors' box with both being escorted away before the final whistle for their own safety.

Police are investigating allegations of assault after a Premier League football match descended into chaos on Saturday when fans stormed the pitch.

Soon after Wood had put Burnley 2-0 ahead a fan ran onto the brandishing a corner flag as things threatened to get out of control. "There will be no further comment at this time".

West Ham now sit in 14th place on 30 points just three clear of the Premier League drop zone and were dealt a huge blow earlier this week when key defender Winston Reid was ruled out for the rest of the season after picking up a nasty knee injury at Swansea last Saturday.

Flu season still going strong
DE public health officials say the death toll from the flu has risen to 28, tying the record death total from three years ago. However, the Texas Department of State Health Services explained that the flu activity still remains high across the state.

When asked what he'd said to the players at full-time, Moyes responded: "I've told them that we are all sticking together - we're going to stick out chest out and go again".

West Ham goalkeeper Joe Hart is set for a recall by manager David Moyes. By that stage the action on the pitch had become nearly incidental with fans directing their anger at the club's chiefs.

"Saturday is the first of those games, the players know exactly what's required of them and what they need to do".

"Everyone knows you don't come on the pitch - that's the rules".

"I think it's a tough situation for a player".

"Burnley had a really good victory last week, which they'll be buoyed by, but as well as that we've had good results at our stadium and we've got to try and make that count".

"You could argue that we had coped with just about everything up until the time".
