Passengers at the domestic terminal wait to go through security after technical issues effectively shut down the airport

Sydney Airport is playing catch up processing passengersin the global terminal, and one of two of the domestic terminals, after a technical issue caused chaos and delays.

Passengers are being urged to avoid these terminals as the airport staff work to resolve the issue. "And some of those systems we use to make sure the airport's secure".

Brisbane Airport tweeted at 9.22am that the incident was ongoing and would cause delays for passengers trying to get through the security screening process, but no other information was made available. "We're advising passengers and visitors to avoid T1 and T2 until further notice", Sydney Airport said on Twitter.

Would-be commuters were left stuck at check-in early on Friday morning after a technical issue resulted in the security screening being unable to open. "We are working hard to catch up any delays", the airport said.

The T3 Qantas Domestic terminal is apparently not affected. "And of course security and safety is a top priority".

The glitch affected outbound flights from its worldwide terminal and one of its two domestic terminals.

Virgin Australia said that "due to a technical issue" passengers were being processed at reduced capacity.

Impacting multiple flights nationwide, the computer glitch prevented passengers from boarding until the system was restored, creating crowds of frustration throughout departure terminals.
