But the player has hit back at the assumptions made about his absence, and insists the club were always aware of his whereabouts.

"We always talk between me and the club, everything is good, so we will see in the summer if things come".

"It was hard, but I spoke with the players, I spoke with the manager, I spoke with everyone and everyone was OK, everyone was good", he said.

'You know in football, players come and players leave, ' said the 27-year-old.

"I don't want to want to talk about this, because first it will bring more rumours and more talk and second we are very far away from this transfer window", he said.

He has scored nine goals and added seven assists in only 25 games, but recent reports indicated that he wanted to hang up his boots. "It was a hard situation but we moved on, everyone - the club, players, me. So I don't want talk about the transfer window".

"I am not saying I am going to leave or going to go". The club handled it very well.

Mahrez also cleared up the confusion over a message which appeared on his Facebook page late on Tuesday night claiming he was quitting football on medical advice and confirmed it was a hoax and his account had been hacked. They know me very well.

"Now I'm moving forward, trying to give my best for the team, and that's most important".

"It was not a genuine post and we have been working with Facebook to get it removed", he said. It won't affect me, so I don't know why they try to do that.
