Oscars: Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway Reference "Envelopegate" While Presenting Best Picture

Why the Oscars won't be announcing the wrong winners in 2018

Why the Oscars won't be announcing the wrong winners in 2018

Hollywood legends Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway returned for take two of presenting the best picture Oscar.

Director of the film Guillermo del Toro had a hilarious moment ahead of accepting the shiny new prize as he double checked the card and smiled into the camera after he had confirmed the win for himself.

The 77-year-old actress took to the stage alongside Warren Beatty over the weekend to bestow the coveted honour on Guillermo del Toro's "The Shape of Water", a year after the pair were handed the wrong envelope when presenting the same award in 2017, which saw them read out "La La Land" as the victor, instead of actual recipients "Moonlight". The envelope they had read "Emma Stone - La La Land", which was used to present Best Actress.

Dunaway, 77, and Beatty, 80, gave viewers one of the most memorable Oscar nights ever in 2017 when Beatty took a look at the card, seemed to be unclear about what he saw, and handed the card to Dunaway, who saw the words La La Land and pronounced it best picture victor instead of Moonlight.

Chances are very high Kimmel will mention it in his monologue, like how 2015 host Neil Patrick Harris mocked John Travolta's mangling of Idina Menzel's name into Adele Dazeem the year prior in his opener.

"When you hear your name called, don't get up right away". The producers of "La La Land" had to hand over the Best Picture Oscar to the team behind "Moonlight" - the film that truly won Best Picture.

Beatty and Dunaway took note of their previous unintended gaffe, with Beatty saying: "Thank you".

"Obviously mistakes happen", Todd tells USA TODAY about the humorous look back to a year ago.

"When you direct live television, your training says if something is going so wrong that your stage manager has to go out there, you're going to do a wide shot", Weiss said. "Faye and Warren will present it to the cast again as the first award of the night".
