"He should be considered armed and unsafe", campus police Lt. Larry Klaus said.

Investigators described the shooting as a "family-type domestic situation".

Cruz used a semi-automatic assault rifle in his attack, leading students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School to make public appeals for change to permissive U.S. gun laws.

Klaus said anyone who sees Davis shouldn't confront him, but needs to call 911.

Two people were killed at the school's Campbell Hall this morning.

Sources told the Free Press his parents arrived on campus Friday morning to pick him up for spring break and were shot and killed.

Reporters from public radio station WCMU say it appears the suspect traveled north after leaving the residence hall where the shooting occurred.

As of 1 p.m., Davis is still at large and considered armed and unsafe, according to CMU officials.

The school posted an alert around 9:30 a.m. on social media about shots being fired at Campbell Hall, a dorm on the campus in Mount Pleasant, which is about 70 miles north of Lansing.

"Once the doors close and something happens and there's an active shooter like today, you can lock them from inside the classroom and you can't lock them without a key". He was wearing yellow trousers and a blue hoodie, but officers found items of clothing they believe were left by the suspect. "The CMU police department is the lead agency investigating this incident". Many students had already left campus. A manhunt is now underway.

The university went into lockdown after the shooting and advised all students to seek shelter in a message via Twitter. He said he saw police vehicles, SWAT teams and helicopters above his dorm.
