His incredible portrait of the former president, unveiled in Washington, DC on Monday, will hang alongside other presidential paintings in the National Portrait Gallery.

It was reported that if the First Lady was disappointed in the portrait, she was far too gracious to let on. The former first lady spoke of her late father, who she says "sacrificed everything to give me and my brother the opportunities he never dreamed for himself".

Both Wiley and Sherald are portraitists who specialize in painting African Americans and in rendering aspects of black culture.

Kehinde Wiley is known for august portraits of African American figures and has formerly painted such icons as Michael Jackson, Grandmaster Flash, and the Notorious B.I.G.

The former president said Mr Wiley was "working at a disadvantage because his subject was less becoming".

Security Council complaining about what it called a "new aggression that poses a war crime and a crime against humanity". Syria's foreign ministry sent two messages Thursday to the U.N. secretary general and the president of the U.N.

Some social media users joked that the image of Mr Obama in a garden looked oddly similar to a photo of popular singer Beyonce.

While less famous than Wiley, Amy Sherald has honed another approach to African American portraiture. Although Sherald selected a more subdued palette for her painting, her subject appears no less regal.

One can only imagine the outrage, marches and demonstrations (and perhaps riots) that would have occurred had a white racist artist been commissioned to paint the official portrait of first lady Laura Bush.

The former President, in my opinion, was too gracious when according to FOX News praised artist Amy Sherald Even, "for so spectacularly capturing the grace and beauty and intelligence and charm and hotness of the woman I love". We should also condemn the Obamas' commissioning of such an individual to paint their official portraits.
