Purdue was joined by No. 1 overall Virginia followed by Villanova and Xavier.

Duke is now the No. 7 team in the nation in the eyes of the NCAA men's basketball selection committee, which revealed its top 16 teams up to this point in the season Sunday afternoon on CBS.

The 2-seeds according to the NCAA Tournament selection committee were Auburn, Kansas, Duke and Cincinnati.

The No. 3 seeds are: Clemson (20-4), Texas Tech (21-4), Michigan State (24-3) and North Carolina (19-7).

Michigan State - which now holds an overall record of 24-3 and has gone 12-2 in Big Ten play - was not ranked a No. 1 or No. 2 seed.

Despite back-to-back last-possession loses in the last week, the NCAA considers Purdue a No. 1 seed in the Tournament, if it started right now.

Snapchat owner Snap ( SNAP.N ) soared 37.8 percent after it reported surging growth in users and revenue in its latest quarter. The S&P 500 index showed 3 new 52-week highs and 2 new lows, while the Nasdaq recorded 26 new highs and 33 new lows.

Sunday's projection is the first and last the selection committee will do before Selection Sunday, which will be held in exactly one month on March 11. They were the East's No. 1 in 2014, the Midwest's No. 1 in 2016.

The East bracket feeds into regional semifinal and regional championship games at the TD Garden in Boston. The 3-seed in Auburn's region was Clemson and the 4-seed was Oklahoma. It will likely be ranked in the top three of the Associated Press poll on Monday. That's fewer than most other teams in the top 16.

Virginia dropped a 61-60 game to Virginia Tech in overtime Saturday to slip to 23-2 this season.

"Despite UVA's loss Saturday, we felt that based on their 13 wins in the first two quadrants, they deserved to remain on top". I wouldn't have felt great. Who knows if you'll get that chance?

The Tigers, now 20-4 overall and 9-3 in second-place in the ACC, play at Florida State Wednesday night for a 7:05 tipoff.
