Colorado Deputy Killed After Responding To Vehicle Theft

One Colorado deputy is dead and two other law enforcement officer were injured following a late afternoon shootout that stemmed from an investigation into a stolen auto, officials tell 13 NEWS' sister-station KKTV, in Colorado Springs.

Deputy Micah Flick, with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, was shot dead while investigating a motor vehicle theft, officials confirmed. He leaves behind his wife and seven-year-old twins.

One woman whose husband worked with Deputy Flick remembered him fondly.

Police say one civilian was shot and taken to the hospital.

The lone suspect was killed, authorities said.

Gov. John Hickenlooper released a statement Monday, following the fatal shooting of 34-year-old El Paso County sheriff's Deputy Micah Flick.

Flick was part of a team of law enforcement officers from the sheriff's office, Colorado Springs police and Colorado State Patrol that confronted a suspected vehicle thief on the 4200 block of Galley Road, police Chief Pete Carey said. Three other deputies, a Castle Rock Police Department SWAT officer and two civilians were injured in the shooting. Jeff Pelle, a Douglas County sheriff's deputy who was among those tweeted a simple message on Monday: "Enough". He is in stable condition. Flick was assigned as a detective in the Investigations division with the Sheriff's Office and also served as transport security with the Criminal Justice Center. Tonight there is no distinction between our uniforms: Colorado State Patrol, sheriff's office and the Colorado Springs Police Department.

A procession for Flick was held in Colorado on Monday night.
