The Israeli prime minister will formally approve the construction of a settlement at the Havat Gilad outpost in the West Bank, following the murder of a local rabbi, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday.

"An accomplice of a Palestinian suspected of shooting and killing Rabbi Raziel Shevach, Hy" d, last month was arrested during an arrest raid in the village of Burqin, near Jenin, the IDF said in a statement.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been going on for decades with the latter seeking diplomatic recognition as an independent state on the territories of the West Bank, occupied by an Israel that is continuously building settlements on these territory.

Israeli Police and Israel Security Forces (ISA) also conducted a wide-scale operation in Abu Dis Saturday overnight, encountering Palestinian rioters who hurled a grenade as forces arrested six Palestinians suspected of taking part in an attack on an Israeli civilian who mistakenly entered the West Bank village located near the Jerusalem border.

With the signing of the Oslo Accords, settlement building was meant to end, but Israel has continued to expand existing settlements on Palestinian land.

According to the Palestinian health ministry, 19-year-old Ahmed Abu Obaid was proclaimed dead in Jenin hospital after he suffered a serious bullet injury in the head.

Scores of Palestinians threw stones at the Israeli forces as they moved into Burqin, Reuters reported. Shevach was shot dead while driving home on Route 60, the West Bank's main highway.

"They will only make us move forward with confidence", Ismail Haniyeh said.

After a week's postponement, the proposal to recognize Havat Gilad as an official community will be brought to a vote at the cabinet meeting today.

Mr Trump's reversal of decades of USA policy enraged Palestinians, who want to create an independent state in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip with East Jerusalem as their capital.

Roberto Valent, an official with the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA, said he was "deeply concerned" by the demolition. "This is the essence of the government's policy", he said.
