At least 11 soldiers and four militants were killed on Monday after the Islamic State attacked an army camp in western Kabul, the seventh major attack in the country this month.

Security forces have blocked off all roads in the area, Afghan media outlet Tolo said.

Diaa Hadid, reporting from Islamabad, tells Morning Edition that one theory making the rounds in Afghanistan is that the spate of recent attacks has been triggered by competition between ISIS and the Taliban.

The bombing follows a more than 12-hour siege on the Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul that killed at least 22 people on January 20.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack which killed mostly civilians, according to Kabul Police spokesman Basir Mujahid.

Afghan Presidential Spokesman Shahhussain Murtazawi has confirmed the attack on Marshal Fahim Military University in Kabul and said the attackers have been restricted to the first gate of the academy.

The attack comes days after an ambulance bomb killed over 100 peoples in the center of Kabul and attack on the Hotel Intercontinental where more than 20 people lost their lives. They also confiscated one suicide vest, an AK-47 and some ammunition, Waziri said. This murderous attack renews our resolve and that of our Afghan partners.

"Cowardly Taliban targeted innocent Afghans and courageous police in Kabul today".

On Saturday, a blast hit the diplomatic quarter of Kabul, where the embassies of other countries and many government buildings are located. The country's security forces in particular have suffered heavy casualties at the hands of the Taliban, who want to re-impose their strict version of Islamic law in the country.

It said the government and the people of Pakistan conveyed solidarity and support to the government and people of Afghanistan over the attack.

"The Taliban's cruelty will not prevail", Trump added. "Their work to create a peaceful, prosperous future for all the citizens of this country is the best response to terrorists and others who know only violence", he said. Earlier two attacks were conducted by Taliban.

Relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have remained frosty due to the latter's constant blame on Pakistan's non-cooperation on tackling terrorism and insurgency and also sending terrorists to Afghanistan for conducting suicide attacks over the years.

The bloodshed has led to widespread criticism among Afghans of the country's national unity government, which the USA helped broker in 2014 after disputed elections.
