Arsenal have been tracking the striker for much of the window as they search for a replacement for Alexis Sanchez following the Chilean's move to Manchester United, with Dortmund themselves admitting the London club's interest in Aubameyang.

Arsene Wenger praised his side for showing a "response" to "the uncertainty that was existing in our dressing room", as he reached a third League Cup final of his career, after Arsenal's 2-1 comeback win over Chelsea.

Arsene Wenger had identified two players who he thinks can nullify his absence: Brazil ace Malcom and Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are on the club's radar.

Arsenal's club officials have been in Germany as they attempt to negotiate a deal. If the deal goes through it will bolster Arsenal's attack and will give them considerable options up front.

Meanwhile, Aubameyang's move to the Emirates is likely to add competition to Gunners first-choice striker Lacazette, and it will be interesting to see where the Frenchman plays, given he can operate on the wings, if required.

"At the moment we are not close to any deal, Aubameyang or anybody else".

"We have plenty of opportunities in different positions, you know, so the final decision is not made".

"This is the kind of thing - he is one of the possible movements, but we have other things in mind as well".

Aubameyang, who has scored 21 goals this season, was dropped by Dortmund for this month's clash against Wolfsburg due to "disciplinary reasons" as he missed a team meeting.

"Confident or not confident, I don't know", Wenger admitted.
