The terrifying attack occurred at 8am local time at Italy High School, Ellis County, located about 45 miles south of Dallas.

The relationship between the shooter and victim is not clear.

There is no other information on the condition of the wounded girl.

Police and emergency crews are at the scene.

Children at the school were being moved under guard to shelter, the sheriff's office said. The teen fled the cafeteria after the confrontation with a staffer but was arrested by law enforcement on school grounds.

Italy Independent School District Superintendent Lee Joffre says that school will be held Tuesday and grief counselors would be on campus.

The shooter has been taken into police custody.
