Swiss President to discuss trade pacts with Modi at Davos

But Downing Street has now said a slot for talks has been arranged.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders announced plans for the meeting Friday, saying in an emailed statement that Trump "looks forward to having a bilateral meeting with" May in order to "further strengthen the US-UK Special Relationship".

Trump has been publicly denounced by MPs from all parties, while Commons speaker John Bercow has said the president will not be invited to address the House.

A senior administration official said, US President Donald Trump can still travel to the World Economic Forum at Davos, Switzerland next week even if the government shuts down due to a budget impasse.

The two leaders are unlikely to have a meeting in Davos mainly due to their different days of attendance at the forum meeting. 38 major head from International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Trade Organisation (WTO) and World Bank will attend the summit along with 2,000 CEOs, including 100 from India in the five-day summit.

This would mark the first time that the historic work of art has ever left French shores since it was created in the 11th century. But it means that you need to contribute to the budget and acknowledge European jurisdiction.

The Prime Minister was left surprised by Mr Trump last week cancelling a planned visit to London to open the new United States embassy. The world leaders also had two subsequent meetings at the G7 summit in Sicily in may and at the G20 summit in Hamburg in July.

However, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan - who has clashed with the president in the past - said Trump had "got the message" that many Londoners were staunchly opposed to his policies and actions.

It is expected that Mr Trump will seize the opportunity to promote his "America First" strategy.

"His visit next month would without doubt have been met by mass peaceful protests".
