Google competes with Amazon Web Services as a platform that companies can contract to handle cloud offerings

Google (GOOGL) said Tuesday it plans to add three new undersea cables next year as part of a broader effort to improve and expand its cloud computing services.

Google is expanding its existing cloud network with new data centers this year and new subsea cables in 2019. Havfrue, which will connect the USA to Denmark and Ireland, will actually be the product of a partnership between Google, Facebook, Aqua Comms, and Bulk Infrastructure.

The cables will be completed in 2019.

"By deploying our own private subsea cable, we help improve global connectivity while providing value to our customers", Sloss continued, explaining the reason behind the new investments. "Owning the cable ourselves has some distinct benefits".

Its "Curie" cable, named after legendary physicist Marie Curie, will run from Chile to Los Angeles and be privately owned by Google and its parent company, Alphabet. "Also, once the cable is deployed, we can make routing decisions that optimize for latency and availability", he said. Once those are done, Google will move on to the subsea cables. While each of those companies will have different uses for the cable, Google plans to use it to boost its network's resiliency in the northern Atlantic region.

Ford Motors to boost investment in electric and hybrid cars
Ford said it will invest $11 billion to create 40 new electric and hybrid vehicles that will be available by 2022. Ford officials spoke after the company's big product launches of the, and.

Early work has already begun on selecting the exact route the Havfrue cable will follow.

One of the cables is called Havfrue and will directly link the U.S.to Ireland and Denmark. The Google Cloud Platform (GCP) region, which is now live in the country, will encourage more local firms to adopt Cloud.

Other companies have built their own cables too: in September past year, Microsoft announced that it had completed construction of the Marea subsea cable, a joint project with Facebook and global telecommunications infrastructure company Telxius. Google is working with NEC and RTI-C on the HK-G cable. "From datacentres to subsea cables, Google is committed to connecting the world and serving our cloud customers", he said.

Google now has 11 direct investments in cables, which help maintain service in an area in case of server malfunctions. As of now, Google has 15 regions sub-divided into 44 zones. It will also increase the company's network capacity at their new Hong Kong region.
