The four judges on Monday went to their respective courts to hear the cases listed before their Benches in the cause-list, leading the lawyers to believe the matters had been sorted out. Justices Arun Mishra and MM Shantanagoudar, however, ruled that the petitioners should be able to see these papers.

The sources said the Chief Justice took the initiative of meeting the four judges as they were not satisfied with the outcome of a meeting of all judges on Monday morning. Justice Arun Mishra got emotional and said he felt he had been "targeted", and Chief Justice Mishra reached out to him. The Bar Council of India had declared "kahani khatam (story is over)" in describing the crisis that erupted on Friday when four senior-most judges launched a virtual revolt against Chief Justice Dipak Misra.

"An independent judiciary is essential for a functioning democracy, they said".

Justice Sikri was also present at the meeting that was held around 10am before the judges dispersed for their regular work. And the Nagpur police on Tuesday told the Supreme Court that the judge had died of a heart attack and "no probe was necessary".

As reported by The Hindu, the differences between the Chief Justice and senior judges not only persist but India's leading English daily citing sources said there have been no attempts to resolve the issue.

Coming out after nearly an hour-long meeting with the CJI, Mishra said the panel held talks with the judges in a very congenial atmosphere and all of them had assured him that the problem would be resolved.

Judge Loya, 48, died in Nagpur in December 2014 while he was hearing a case that accused BJP chief Amit Shah of murder.

The Convenor of Campaign for Judical Accountability and Reforms (CJAR), which held a press conference, repeated all the allegations it had raised in its PIL in the case that was dismissed by the Supreme Court with an exemplary cost of Rs 25 lakh. Earlier in the day, Attorney General K K Venugopal expressed the crisis will be settled soon.

There has been much controversy about a "particular bench" being assigned sensitive cases especially the medical admission scam case and the case pertaining to Judge Loya.
