Update: Suspect in custody after possible hostage situation on Greyhound bus

Dodd caught the Greyhound in Milwaukee about 8:45 p.m. and was headed to Chicago. A passenger called 911 about a man on the bus that claimed to have a gun and threatened to kill people, authorities said.

The Racine County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Wisconsin State Patrol, Kenosha County Sheriff's Office and Illinois State Police.

Police put out spike strips on I-94, which brought the Greyhound bus to a stop on an exit ramp to Route 173 in Lake County, Illinois.

Approximately 40 passengers aboard the bus were evacuated, police said. "He did comply - rather reluctantly - but he was ultimately taken into custody without incident".

"We dodged a bullet", Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling said during a press conference Saturday.

"They indicated there was a person on the bus making threatening statements and, in fact, threatening to shoot and kill", the Sheriff said. Schmaling said the driver didn't know there was any potential danger.

As the bus continued southbound into Kenosha County, deputies from the Kenosha County Sheriff's Department joined the chase.

Officials didn't locate a weapon on Vargas-Rosas, but said the bus will be thoroughly searched.

Vargas-Rosas is in the US illegally, and was previously deported to Mexico in 2012, The Daily Herald reported.

No gun was recovered on the bus. He is in the country illegally, Schmaling said, noting that he had been deported to Mexico some time ago. He reportedly made threats, referred to having a gun and acted as though he was going to pull one out of his waistband.

So far, no weapon has been recovered on the bus.
