Colorado Attorney General says marijuana businesses should carry on as usual

Recreational marijuana just became legal in California earlier this week, and it already looks like things might be going up in smoke.

Announcing a "return to the rule of law", Attorney General Jeff Sessions rescinded five key memos issued by the administration of president Barack Obama that discouraged enforcement of federal laws, which still classify marijuana as a unsafe narcotic like heroin.

Robert Troyer, who was appointed an interim US attorney for the District of Colorado by Sessions in November, said his office's decisions regarding marijuana cases would be guided by similar principles as before: "focusing in particular on identifying and prosecuting those who create the greatest safety threats to our communities around the state". "This is an industry that Oregonians have chosen - and one I will do everything within my legal authority to protect", Rosenblum said.

"The previous issuance of guidance undermines the rule of law and the ability of our local, state, tribal, and federal law enforcement partners to carry out this mission", wrote Sessions, according to NBC. "We had no idea it was coming, and like you, we woke up this morning to the news that there was new direction from Attorney General Sessions", she said.

"I'm not anxious. Everything we do here follows state laws, and everything is up to code".

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has appointed 17 new interim federal prosecutors across the country, including two who will oversee the New York City and Long Island districts.

The State of OR has had a lot of trouble recently with overproduction of cannabis leading to illegal exportation to other states.

Advocacy groups said the Sessions revision not only flouted the president's previous commitments to local democracy but also amounts to bad public policy.

Gardner said he only found out via Twitter that Sessions was changing the policy.

North Korea agrees to talks after US, South Korea postpone military drills
On Monday, he offered to discuss with South Korea the need for a peaceful winter Olympic atmosphere on the Korean peninsula. However, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley maintained a tough line, playing down Seoul's offer to hold talks.

Prosecutors in Western states wanted guidance from the Justice Department when the likelihood of state marijuana legalization became clear in 2010 and 2011.

"We've got to be sure we pass legislation that puts in place permanent protections", Titus said. The amendment, known as the Rohrabacher-Blumenauer Amendment, maintains that federal funds can not be used to prevent states from "implementing their own state laws that authorize the use, distribution, possession or cultivation of medical marijuana".

Coos County Sherriff Craig Zanni said, "This is now a federal issue related to a change of federal prosecutor's directives".

"I am prepared to take all steps necessary, including holding DOJ nominees, until the Attorney General lives up to the commitment he made to me prior to his confirmation", Gardner tweeted Thursday.

The Centennial Institute at Colorado Christian University, a regular critic of legal marijuana, issued a statement advocating a federal crackdown.

The association suffered a separate setback December 28 when a state Supreme Court judge dismissed its lawsuit that meant to block the state Health Department from doubling the number of companies permitted to grow and distribute medical marijuana in NY.

"The president believes in enforcing federal law - that's his top priority - regardless of what the topic is, whether it's marijuana or immigration".

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, long a supporter of medical marijuana, called the Sessions memo "a direct attack on patients".
