The younger Van Dyke made his acting debut on "The Dick Van Dyke" show, and made appearances on "The Ed Sullivan Show" before joining "The Judy Garland Show" as a regular.

The late comedian was known for his role as Assistant Coach Luther Van Dam on ABC's "Coach". Van Dyke earned four consecutive Emmy nominations thanks to his comedy chops on the series. His most recognizable role came in 1989, when he was cast opposite Craig T. Nelson in the aforementioned Coach (pictured right), which aired for nine seasons between 1989-1997. In recent years, he was doing quietly marvelous stuff as talkative grandpa Tag Spence on The Middle.

Jerry Van Dyke is survived by wife Shirley, their three kids, and his brother Dick.
