Storm Eleanor, the fifth winter storm of the season, is expected to make landfall this evening.

An amber wind warning, valid from 19:30 GMT on Tuesday, has been issued for much of Northern Ireland.

Forecasters also say there is a "danger to life" from beach material being thrown up onto the coast.

A yellow weather warning been issued for the North East, as parts of the country are to experience wind gusts of up to 80 miles per hour overnight.

In the Republic of Ireland, Met Éireann has issued two Status Orange warnings and road users are being urged to travel with care as Storm Eleanor sweeps across the country, with strong winds and flooding in some areas.

The fifth named storm of the season is bringing a "very windy" spell to the United Kingdom through this evening, the night and into Wednesday morning, according to forecasters.

Deputy chief forecaster Dan Harris added that next weekend could bring a return of colder conditions with a risk of frost, ice and wintry conditions, particularly in the north.

As well as high winds there's also heavy rain too.

"Wednesday daytime sees a very blustery day, with squally gusts accompanying showers in many areas".
