The Rehabilitation Center told the state in a September 27 letter it didn't report the layoffs sooner "due to unforeseen business circumstances that occurred after the impact of Hurricane Irma", the Sun Sentinel quoted the letter as saying.

The 14th person to die was 95-year-old Francesca Andrade.

On Sept. 13, eight residents died and other residents were evacuated from the facility.

A Florida nursing home where a dozen patients died after Hurricane Irma knocked out power has closed and laid off its 245 employees, according to a notice to state officials.

Cecilia Franco, 90, died on Monday, the 13th person from the Hollywood nursing home to die following a power outage caused by the hurricane.

The deaths are all being considered as part of an ongoing criminal investigation, the City of Hollywood Police Department said.

Cecilia Franco would be the 13th death linked to the nursing home.

Another Hollywood Hills nursing home resident has died, according to a family representative.

Hollywood police spokeswoman Miranda Grossman told The Associated Press on Monday that 95-year-old Francesca Andrade has died from ailments suffered when the Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills lost power September 10 during the hurricane's passage.

"The respondent's (nursing home's) deficient conduct is widespread and places all future residents at immediate threat to their health, safety and welfare", the order said.

Workers losing their jobs include occupational, speech and physical therapists, nurses and dietary aids.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott issued emergency rules later that month.
